Sequoia opened its doors Thursday evening, April 5, for its annual Open House, offering parents, students and prospective families an engaging look into the academic life of the school. Classrooms displayed projects, teachers shared curriculums and families caught a glimpse of the Sequoia learning environment.
“I love that [open house] gives us an opportunity to come together as a community, celebrating all of our hard work from the year and what we’ve accomplished,” Chemistry Teacher, Marsenne Kendall said.
From science experiments and student art exhibits to musical performances and language demonstrations, many teachers and student organizations contributed to the night including ASB and Drumline. Most teachers emphasized how important the event is not just for existing families but for those considering joining the Sequoia community.
“I always love meeting prospective students or eighth graders that are about to come and inviting them into our community. It gives people an opportunity to see what we do here and all of the great stuff within our classrooms,” English Teacher, Mathew Wohl said.
The open house also served as a way for current parents to get a more in-depth view of their student’s school life. Teachers and staff welcomed conversations about student progress, classroom goals and upcoming opportunities.
“It’s a time for parents who may not always be in the loop to learn a little bit more about what’s happening in their student’s classes and how they’re doing.” Math Teacher, Neil Prakash said.
Even for those whose parents couldn’t make it, the event remained a meaningful occasion.
“It’s neat to see parents interact with what their students are doing, and even if parents don’t come, I always have current and former students wander in,” English Teacher Megan Chatham said
