As the highly anticipated dance show draws near, dance director and teacher Taylor White has been immersed in an extensive preparation process. The process began in May of last year, when the crew first began assembling their dance routines. Following the summer break, the students returned to school, and the material was taught and seamlessly transformed onto the stage.
“Adding the theater, technical aspects, lighting, sounds and intricate costuming pulls it all together. It’s magical,” White said.
This year, the show implements more routines and new ideas for the audience to see. White says there is going to be new choreography, music, lighting and energy. On the other hand, the process is the same and so is the vibe of the performance. Ultimately, this show and the ones before it are similar in the approach and standard. Mrs. White also reveals that the upcoming performance will showcase new choreography, music, lighting schemes, and an overall renewed energy for viewers. Despite these changes, the fundamental process and vibe of the show remain consistent, which is sure to define each performance.
“I’m excited for people to see the culmination of a year of hard work and creativity of the students. I would say about 98% of this [show] is student-driven,” White said.
White allows students to run their ideas and set their pieces. Dancers and choreographers are bouncing ideas off of each other nonstop. In addition, these dancers are putting their heart and soul into rehearsal everyday after school.
“We’re constantly working hard and we get a bunch of bruises going on the floor. But [dancing]builds community and excitement,” senior Azucena Juarez said.
Even with all the fun, a lot of dancers are feeling both excitement and sadness. For the seniors, it is their last night on the big stage.
“It’s a stressful but exciting experience and I just know I’m just going to be bawling my eyes out,” senior Azucena Juarez said.
