Dec. 18 to the 21 is finals week. Many students feel anxious about these exams and look for effective ways to study for them. There are many things to consider when studying for finals, such as the amount of time to spend studying and how to study most effectively.
It’s important to know how much time to set aside in order to prepare for finals and how to divide that time among different subjects. Planning apps, like MyStudyLife, are free and a great way for students to stay on track and create an effective schedule.
“This app is very well made, it is a digital planner where lots of students use planners to help them with school,” junior Miguel Ortega said.
The use of apps for studying are very useful tools since they help students learn the material that they need to know. There are many apps that students can use to study and improve their knowledge on any subject. Quizlet is a useful app that many students have used already in their classes, but it is also a good app to study with.
“I used to love Quizlet, Quizlet is an app that lets you create flashcards, especially if you have a course where you need to learn a lot of terms, and then you can quiz yourself on the flashcards. They make games and it’s automated,” Library Media Specialist Betsy Snow said.
Another site that is popular with students is Khan Academy, which is a site that provides tutorial videos that teach about many subjects, from math to science to history. Khan Academy offers flashcards, multiple choice questions, and videos to help prepare students for their exams.
“Khan academy helped me study many subjects back in middle school and it helped me learn some math in high school,” junior Phoenix Palmerin said.
Although it is important to be well prepared for finals, it is also important to not get stressed out or overwhelmed. Physical and mental breaks are an important part of studying since they help relieve stress and refresh the mind.
“I think that actually it is important to have some downtime during finals week because you don’t want to stress yourself out spending all your time studying. So maybe setting aside 30 minutes here and there to play video games or just hanging out, “English teacher Alissa Talesnick said.
Knowing how to properly study is very useful for success in college, and knowing how to prepare for finals in high school will set students up for great achievement in college.
“If you’re thinking about going to college, colleges have final exams and they usually are pretty rigorous. So this is practice for college or practice for just a high stakes situation in a job that you might have in the future,” Talesnick said.
