Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour was one of the most sold out concerts this year – it sold out stadiums and broke Ticketmaster. Not all her fans had the opportunity to attend the Eras Concert, so Swift decided to film the first three of her concerts in L.A. SoFi Stadium and put it into one film. It was released on Oct.13 2023. Giving her fans the opportunity to feel like they were in the concert with her. The day of the premier in AMC The Grove 14, Swift herself went to visit her fan in each room.
I had the opportunity to go to the actual concert and the movie and I can say that they were both different. The concert was an unbelievable experience. During the movie in some songs it did feel like I was there again. Watching the movie you could really feel like you could hear the lyrics and connect to them because the theater was quieter than the concert and just felt every emotion on the screen. You could see that Swift and the dancers were actually having fun and it didn’t feel like it was their job. Every song and performance was thought out.
That sense of community that the movie was attended to, giving off that feeling where you belong and to be yourself. That feeling of an actual concert and having that experience. “I was just really excited. I felt like her stage presence was really amazing and like there was a sense of community in the theater because like the fans were all really excited. And we were all singing. And it was really fun,” said senior Giselle Perez Apolinar.
While for some people it felt like the movie was like the actual concert, others felt it was not quite the same.
“So then we didn’t get the same atmosphere. But then, you know the speakers are really loud. So it kind of tries to give you the experience but I think you never can get the experience of an actual concert, ” said senior Brandon Kwan.
The Eras Movie is one of the most popular movies right now and the theater is full of people watching the movie.
“Yes, it’s still very packed. This previous sunday when I was working. We had showings every like 15 minutes and all of it was super booked,” Senior and employee at the theater Jayla Thompson said.
Even if weeks have passed people still want to watch the movie and feel that experience of feeling like the concert itself.
Just seeing the movie itself was a fun experience to have with friends. It’s worth watching even if you aren’t a huge Swiftie.
“I felt really nostalgic because I’ve been a fan since I was eight years old. So getting to like see all like, hear all the songs again after so, like so long,. It’s been so many years. Just getting to like hearing her live on a stage. After so long singing the songs that I’ve known since like, I was really really young I felt really nostalgic” – Giselle Perez Apolinar
